HỌC ĐÁNH CỜ

Nhàn rỗi đem cờ học đánh chơi,
Thiên binh vạn mã đuổi nhau hoài;
Tấn công, thoái thủ nên thần tốc,
Chân lẹ, tài cao ắt thắng người.

Phải nhìn cho rộng suy cho kỹ,
Kiên quyết, không ngừng thế tấn công;
Lạc nước, hai xe đành bỏ phí,
Gặp thời, một tốt cũng thành công.

Vốn trước hai bên ngang thế lực,
Mà sau thắng lợi một bên giành;
Tấn công, phòng thủ không sơ hở,
Đại tướng anh hùng mới xứng danh.

When idle, I learn to play a game of chess,
With armies vast that chase and never rest.
Swift attacks, quick retreats must be precise,
With nimble steps and skill, you’ll win the fight.

See far and deep, think thoroughly,
Strike firm, relentless in strategy.
If water’s lost, two chariots may fall,
Yet one brave pawn, in time, can conquer all.

At first, both sides are matched in might,
But victory comes to one through skill and fight.
No gaps in offense or defense arrayed,
A hero general earns his title that way.
